CW Developing Batwoman Television Series

That didn't take long. Fans were rather excited when it was announced that Batwoman would debut in December's CW annual crossover with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Now, it looks like the character will be getting her own series sometime after the crossover ends, which should be exciting for fans of the character.

According to Variety, CW is developing the series and the people within the company are hoping for a 2019 release. Caroline Dries, who previously worked on The Vampire Diaries, will write and be one of the project's executive producers. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns will also act as executive producers.

No news yet on who will be the lead of Batwoman but the news should be coming sooner or later, with the crossover scheduled to take place by the end of the year. She's a fan-favorite and arguably the most popular LGBT superhero, unless you count Wonder Woman as bisexual, so there might be pressure on CW to get this character right.

Created by Greg Rucka and JH Williams III, Batwoman aka Kate Kane first debuted in Detective Comics and soon got her own title during the New 52. In Rebirth, she was a core member of James Tynion IV's acclaimed Detective Comics run before getting her own series, which was recently canceled and will finish after issue #18. That's pretty bad timing, though there's a good chance that they could revive her series.

No release date for Batwoman has been announced.
