Cult Director Kevin Smith Defends The DCEU’s Batfleck

Before the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans had a lot of concerns over Warner Brother's decision to cast Ben Affleck as the DC Extended Universe's new Batman. Even after the film changed fan's minds with many considering the Batfleck one of the most comic book-accurate versions of the Dark Knight, some continue to criticize Affleck's version of the Caped Crusader.

Now, speaking in his podcast Fat Man on Batman, cult director and pop culture connoisseur, Kevin Smith defends Affleck's Batman, pointing out that Batfleck was often singled out by fans and critics as one of the stronger points of Batman v Superman.

"I think if you think back to when Batman v Superman came out, he was the one that actually skated. He got a lot of f—king praise," Smith responded when asked why Affleck continues to be "unfairly maligned" by some staunch fans for playing the DCEU's Batman.

Though Batman v Superman was a commercial success for Warner Brothers, fans had a lot to say about the film, pointing out its plot holes and criticizing its many flaws. However, some of the best points of the movie that most fans and critics pointed out were the appearance of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck's Batman.

"There were people going, ‘This movie's got a lot of issues, ironically, Affleck as Batman is not one of them.' That was my recollection of people's reaction to BVS. They had issues with the tone and the darkness and sh-t like that, but he was the one thing that most people agreed was really good in the movie," Smith elaborated further.

Unfortunately, while the fanbase has found a fondness for Affleck's version of Batman, the actor's future in the DCEU remains quite uncertain with reports coming out every now and then that Affleck is wanting to put up his cape and leave the franchise. Other reports also say that he wants to stay. But right now, without any official confirmation, nothing's for certain. We'll just have to wait and see.
