Cult Anime FLCL is Returning With 2 New Seasons For Adult Swim

Cult anime series FLCL — also known as Fooly Cooly — will be getting two new seasons, according to an announcement from Cartoon Network parent company Turner. Production I.G. Series creator Kazuya Tsurumaki will return for the new seasons, which will consist of 12 episodes total and is set to air on Cartoon Network's Toonami block.

Back in August, Anime News Network reported that Production I.G. may be planning a remake for the popular series after announcing their purchase of the rights to the FLCL from production.

FLCL is a melancholy, surrealist coming-of-age story, the original six episodes follow 12-year-old grade-schooler Naota Nandaba who's smashed in the head by a mysterious woman carrying a bass guitar (Haruhara Haruko) — an event that starts both robot battles and reflections on puberty.

Turner released a statement describing the sequel:

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

The next season will premiere on late 2017 or early 2018. Are you excited to see more FLCL?
