Could Michelle Peiffer’s Original Wasp Have Appeared In Ant-Man And The Wasp’s New Trailer?

Hope Van Dyne's (Evangeline Lily) Wasp might be the focus of Ant-Man and the Wasp but that doesn't mean that Marvel's forgotten her mother, the original Wasp who finds herself lost in the Quantum Realm.

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe's sequel to the 2015 Ant-Man comes rolling in, fans are finally going to meet Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, Hope's mother. In the original Ant-Man movie, we get to see Janet fighting as the Wasp together with her husband Hank in an old flashback. Working together to defuse a Soviet missile, Janet goes subatomic, losing her way in the Quantum Realm and never find her way back.

Though the whole appearance is nothing but a cameo, Hope will finally get her spot in the limelight in Ant-Man and the Wasp with Peyton Reed setting the stage for her rescue in the film. Fans even seem to get to see her in the newest trailer for the film, floating around in the quantum realm.

Coming around at the 1:24 mark of the second trailer for the Ant-Man sequel, we get to see something zipping by Scott (Paul Rudd) in the quantum realm, startling the MCU's new Ant-Man. Scott wouldn't be as surprised if it were Hope, but seeing his reaction, speculation has it that this might actually be Janet.

While the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp didn't feature Janet as directly as this, it did tease the mission to rescue the original Wasp and in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lilly talks about how hell-bent Hope is at getting her mother back.

"Scott entered the Quantum Realm in the first film and came back, which is something they thought was impossible," Lilly told the publication. "The question has arisen, ‘Can Janet come back?' So the entire film, my character is hell-bent on finding a way to get into the Quantum Realm and bring her back."

It's definitely going to be an interesting mission, especially with Hannah John-Kamen's Ghost stirring up trouble for Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to premiere on July 6.
