Could Lucasfilm Drop Star Wars: Episode IX’s Trailer During This Year’s Super Bowl?

Star Wars fans were pretty disappointed over the holiday season. Not only was the trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX absent during the Christmas season, the teaser was nowhere to be found during the New Year's celebration, leaving the fanbase feeling empty-handed during the holidays. It was especially disappointing because Disney and Marvel dropped trailers left and right during December – one for Avengers: Endgame, one for Captain Marvel, and one for Aladdin.

Despite all the disappointment, fans are still hoping to see the teaser for Episode IX soon, and some speculate that the trailer might just drop next month during the NFL Super Bowl. The NFL Playoffs has finally reached completion, and now it looks like the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots are set to face off in Super Bowl LIII.

Major studios usually drop new trailers during the event. With millions of viewers expected to tune in during the Super Bowl, it would be a total waste for studios like Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm to miss out on potential marketing for their upcoming movies.

Though the list of movie trailers for this year's Super Bowl has yet to be confirmed, ComicBook.com is expecting Marvel to drop trailers for Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame during the match. DC is expected to release new footage of Shazam! and of course, Lucasfilm is expected to drop the very first teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX.

It isn't much of a stretch really. Solo: A Star Wars Story's trailer was released during the Super Bowl LII, after all.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
