Could Jared Leto Be Teasing His Return As The Joker In DC’s Birds of Prey?

Right now, Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto is busy working on Morbius: The Living Vampire, Sony's latest film in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. However, before his role as Spiderman's blood-sucking enemy, Leto used to play Joker in the DC Extended Universe's Suicide Squad – that is until DC decided that it would no longer put the spotlight on Gotham's Clown Prince Of Crime. Instead, all of the attention went to Robbie Margo's Harley Quinn who's set to return in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

However, it seems like Leto is still playing a role in the film. Photos taken from the set of Birds of Prey just made their way online today and in it fans get to see Harley getting into a fight with Joker. Though it's unclear whether this really means Joker's return, Leto put up a new tease on his Instagram account suggesting that he would make his way back to the DCEU.

Posting on the social media site, Leto shared a lone clown face emoji on his Instagram stories (via ComicBook.com). Though the post could refer to anything, most have taken the clown face emoji as a hint towards his return as the Joker.

This is interesting news to DC fans. Leto's version of the Joker has been rather divisive, not only because of the look but because Suicide Squad's promotional videos made it look like the Clown Prince of Crime had a much larger role in the film than he actually did. There have been signs though that Leto did film a lot of scenes for Suicide Squad, only to see them in the cutting room floor because of WB's intervention.

Birds of Prey is set for release February 7, 2020.
