Warner Bros. is reportedly bringing John Constantine back to the big screen.
According to the folks over at We Got This Covered, Colin Farrell is being eyed for the role. However, the project is still very early in development so nothing has been set in stone yet.
Farrell is yet to sign on to the Constantine movie and it looks like he hasn't been approached for it either, but as Warner Bros. explores the project, it is looking like they are keen on pursuing the Fantastic Beasts and Dumbo actor to play the sorcerer and exorcist.
Constantine is one of the many characters that have always been planned to be introduced back to the movies. He was supposed to appear in the Justice League Dark movie by Guillermo del Toro, a project that appears to have been scrapped.
There hasn't been any new information on that film for two years now after Doctor Strange writer Jon Spaihts was recruited to rewrite the script. Doug Liman, who was supposed to direct, hinted that it is not pushing through when he said that he could return to helm the movie.
The Constantine film will reportedly be set in the same universe as Robert Pattinson's The Batman, which will apparently be separate from the established universe where Aquaman and Wonder Woman exist.
Currently, a small screen version of the character is being played by Matt Ryan on Legends of Tomorrow. It has been said that characters that are coming to the films will be off limits from the small screen, but Ryan's version is expected to be part of the new season of the Arrowverse series. It will be interesting to see what happens to the character's Legends counterpart should this project move forward.
For now, however, fans are advised to take this report with a grain of salt. Hopefully, we'll get more concrete details on this Constantine movie project soon, but the focus seems to be on The Batman at the moment. So, we'll just have to wait and see.
