In a surprising announcement at a special event in Japan, the new anime project in the Code Geass franchise announced almost three years ago finally got an update! Here's everything you need to know about the release date of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture.

Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture Will Be a Four-Part Film

In 2020, Crunchyroll announced Code Geass: Z of the Recapture, a new anime series set to expand the Code Geass universe.

While the movies are considered recaps of the series, various key plot changes create inconsistencies in the universe of Code Geass.

Monsters & Critics explained this confusion:

The creators apparently viewed the [Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;Surrection] movie as an alternate timeline since Taniguchi said the compilation trilogy is 'not a negation of the television series, but rather one possible outcome.
That means the original ending remains intact whereas the new movies establish a new separate canon based on an alternate timeline.

However, in a special event in Japan, the new anime project in the Code Geass franchise was revealed to be a four-part film. Its new official title is Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture.

A huge part of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture is still being kept under wraps, except for the fact that it will focus on the story of two brothers, Rozé and Ash, in addition to being set after the events of the last movie in the franchise's trilogy.

Fans wonder which direction the new series will take, as the original series and movies are set in alternate timelines.
