Clone Wars Should Build Up to Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Darth Maul Connection

There's a lot of excitement building up over the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Not only will we get to see the Siege of Mandalore, but we'll also get to see the return of Darth Maul.

While most fans are eager to see the battle between Darth Maul and Ahsoka Tano, CBR reminds the fanbase that the series has to pick up on the Darth Maul tease that Lucasfilm left in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Star Wars spinoff movie had a surprise appearance by Maul when it premiered back in 2018, revealing that the former Sith Lord had actually risen to power in the Star Wars underworld. During the final act of Solo, fans get to see Kira (Emilia Clark) contacting the leader of the Crimson Dawn, a cult-like criminal organization that wasn't tied to the politics of any single planet. To the surprise of fans, that leader turned out to be Maul.

While fans have been hoping that Lucasfilm might explore Maul's criminal operations in a second spinoff movie, the idea of the studio developing a follow-up to Solo sounds very unlikely given the film's performance at the box office during its theatrical release.

Now, it seems like everyone's turning to the final season of The Clone Wars, hoping that the series might at least show us the beginnings of the Crimson Dawn. The series is obligated to set up the Crimson Dawn arc for Maul, even if the organization is just mentioned in passing.

After all, Maul is being set up as one of the main antagonists of The Clone Wars Season 7. It would be such a waste if the series were to neglect to mention the Crimson Dawn.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 is set to premiere on February 21 on Disney+.
