Fans who aren’t familiar with Yagami need not worry. After all, he is a character that debuts in the series’ 2nd Year, meaning he has not appeared in the anime yet.

Meet Takuya Yagami: A Major Player in Year 2
The Classroom of the Elite anime is getting a lot of attention again as its third season premiered in January 2024. Even though the series is already three seasons in, the anime is still in the first year part.
As for the original light novel series, it is now in the 2nd year, with 10 volumes already being released in Japan. Thus, there are already lots of new characters that were introduced.
Among these new characters is Takuya Yagami, a lowerclassman of Kiyotaka Ayanokoji who gets assigned to Class 1-B.
Yagami may not have been put into Class 1-A, but make no mistake, he is perhaps one of the smartest and most cunning characters in the series yet. This is despite his gentle demeanor.
For instance, he was able to quickly become the leader of his class. He also easily forced a classmate of his to be expelled while having someone else get blamed for it.
Soon, it’s revealed that Yagami has set his sights on Ayanokoji, whom he aimed to expel by enlisting the help of Kikyo Kushida.

Yagami vs Ayanokoji: Who Wins in Classroom of the Elite?
Based on the 2nd Year events, Yagami is no doubt one of the smartest Classroom of the Elite characters, possibly in the league of Ayanokoji.
Yagami’s intelligence makes sense given that he is also from the White Room. His going up against Ayanokoji is also part of his plan to force Ayanokoji to return to the White Room.
Of course, despite Yagami’s abilities, he was not able to best Ayanokoji. In fact, Ayanokoji got him expelled in the events of the 2nd Year Volume 7 light novel.
Even though Yagami lost, he did mention how Ayanokoji is a bad matchup for him. This, coupled with his previous feats still makes him one of the most intelligent characters in the series yet.
Fans will need to wait a while before this happens in the anime though, as the ongoing third season is still in the first year part of the story.
