Aladdin CinemaCon Footage With Will Smith's Genie Singing Divides Viewers

After images and a teaser trailer freaked fans out, the first official trailer of Disney's live-action Aladdin remake managed to convince people that Will Smith's Genie didn't look that bad. This made many of us a little more curious about the movie, especially since we will be hearing Will rap for the first time in forever, even if it's basically a cover of an old song.

Well, if this report from IndieWire is anything to go by, it looks like new footage from the film has taken away all of that goodwill (Smith). Apparently, many have called the scene where Will Smith pops out as Genie a "CGI abomination," among other things. Even the redux of Never Had a Friend Like Me was panned, which is sad to hear.

Okay, it's not all bad. Some sites like JoBlo Movies did dig the scene and praised the visual flair that it had, so that's a positive. It was also noted that the VFX for the scene was not 100% completed yet, which is a bit of a relief since there are people who enjoyed this version. I guess we'll just have to wait for the movie before giving our final verdicts.

Aladdin comes out on May 24.
