What is the Role of Ciarán Hinds in The Family Plan?
The Family Plan follows the story of what seems to be a regular suburban family consisting of a couple and their three kids. Minutes into the film, we discover that the dad, played by Mark Wahlberg, was previously a spy.
Now that his enemies are after him, Dan Morgan needs to hide his family while he deals with the bad guys. And who do the bad guys report to? Ciarán Hinds. Yes, it's no surprise that in The Family Plan, Ciarán Hinds plays a villain.
In the film, Hinds plays McCaffrey, one of Dan's former colleagues who has a vendetta against him.
Another publication shared that his character is Dan's father. But this is a spoiler alert that we haven't read anywhere else.
Speaking about his involvement in the film, Hinds shared in an interview with The Movie Times:
"It's a genre that I'm not usually involved in so it was very thrilling for me to read it, kind of, get a hang of it. And then finally to be offered the role, it was great."
Where You've Seen Ciarán Hinds Before
Hinds is a versatile Irish actor who has been in several films.
He is most famous for his role in The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Oscar and Lucinda, The Sum of All Fears, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, First Man, Belfast, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and many more. You may also recall Hinds in his portrayal of Aberforth Dumbledore in the 2011 film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.
Aside from films, Hinds starred in Frozen and Frozen II by voicing Grand Pabbie, the Troll King. He was also in Zack Snyder's Justice League, where he played Steppenwolf.
Surprisingly, Hinds also has a background as a period-piece stage actor. He is affiliated with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Glasgow Citizens' Theatre, and the Royal National Theatre.
He was recognized by The Irish Times as among the greatest film actors in Ireland in 2020. And based on the number of awards and nominations Hinds has earned over the years, it's clear that he is deeply talented in his craft.
