Chukwudi Iwuji Spills Details About His High Evolutionary Role for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

After months of guessing Chukwudi Iwuji's mysterious role in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel Studios finally divulged which character the Peacemaker actor would bring into the MCU at last week's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and that is no other than the villainous High Evolutionary.

Following the announcement, Iwuji can now finally talk about his 'Not-So-Nice' role. In a recent interview with Collider, he spilled some details about his character's bizarre qualities, revealing that despite the High Evolutionary's extremely dark outlook, fans will still find the character amusing.

"Shady doesn't touch it," Iwuji said. "He is narcissistic, sociopathic, but very charming. I couldn't have thought of a better character that uses [a] skill set better to join the MCU with. Because there's something very Shakespearean about him, there's something very emotionally dark about him, and he's a lot of fun on top of all that. The costume like you mentioned, the day I put on that costume, because he looks very different from how he is in the comics, but the costume just worked. There's something about putting it on, which I'm glad you mentioned because a big part of my performance was that costume."

In Marvel Comics, Herbert Edgar Wyndham widely known as the High Evolutionary started as a mere mortal from Earth-616. However, he was able to develop his brain to its full capacity, granting him unlimited knowledge and an immeasurable intellectual ability.

It's already compelling to wonder how Iwuji would approach such a complex villain. But according to his recent statement, it appears that the actor familiarized himself with the character from the source material, making sure that he portrays a version of the High Evolutionary that Marvel Comics fans would absolutely love.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
