Chris Pine Finally Clears the Air on the Spitgate Controversy

A few months ago, the cast of the Olivia Wilde film Don't Worry Darling was involved in several controversies with one of them, the "Spitgate," where the alleged spit that Harry Styles did on his co-star Chris Pine during the movie's premiere screening at the Venice Film Festival.

As a result, a lot of people have been speculating whether the Grammy-winning singer did spit on the Star Trek actor and the footage has been replayed so many times as they're analyzing the situation and looking at the reactions of the people involved.

Now that it's been a while since the controversy happened, in a recent interview with Esquire, Pine was asked to look back and clarify (perhaps for the last time) whether his Don't Worry Darling co-star did spit on him. The actor iterated that it did not happen and, in fact, he is on friendly terms with Styles.

"I was on the plane with my publicist, who says I look like Rachel from Friends [with my current hairstyle], we’re flying back from Venice. And I’m sleeping, having a great time on the plane. I love planes," he said.

"And she wakes me up, in a, you know, in a state. She says, ‘We have to craft a message about what happened in Venice.’ And I’m like ‘About what?’ ‘About Harry spitting on you.’ Which I have no idea what happened. She showed me the thing. It does look, indeed, like Harry spitting on me. He didn’t spit on me."

Pine also added, "I think what he said, is he leaned down, and I think he said, ‘It’s just words, isn’t it?’ Because we had this little joke, because we’re all jetlagged, we’re all trying to answer these questions, and sometimes when you’re doing these press things, your brain goes all befuddled, you know, you start speaking gibberish, and we had a joke like, ‘It’s just words, man.'"

This should settle all the debates and conversations regarding the controversy as we now have word from Pine himself that the Eternals actor did not spit on him. While the world has seemingly moved on from it, at least we finally have the confirmation and we can put it on the books.
