Chris Evans on the Real Reason Behind the MCU’s Success

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been an indubitable commercial and critical success. With more than twenty films in its library, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has enjoyed overwhelming box office success, earning a total worldwide box office revenue of 22.55 billion US dollars. That's twice than what Star Wars has earned over the years – the galaxy far, far away has only managed to rake in 10.32 billion USD.

While there are many elements that help ensure Marvel's success, Captain America star Chris Evans believes that the key to the MCU's actors. Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in the entertainment news outlet's Awards Chatter podcast (via Looper), the Marvel actor decided to give some insight on Marvel's overwhelming success.

According to Evans, the key element to the overwhelming success of the MCU was, "As much as I'd love to say that it's the actors that are all so wonderful in [their] roles, I've seen plenty of movies at this caliber with wonderful actors," Evans said. "You love to attribute it to just the director, and I've also seen wonderful directors that make movies like this that kind of miss. I guess, the buck stops with Kevin Feige, doesn't it? I mean, it must."

Evans does have a point. Sure, a lot of credit goes to the director and the scriptwriter in charge of Marvel's movies, but the actors in the MCU are also pretty much great contributors to the franchise. It'd be very different if the actors in the MCU didn't know how to bring their characters to life.

The first film in Phase 4 of the MCU, Black Widow, is set to premiere on November 6, 2020.
