Chris Evans' Mom Convinced Him to Play Captain America in the MCU

Being a parent can be a really difficult and thankless job so if your mother or father is a good person who supports you no matter what, you're lucky. It looks like Chris Evans has a really great mother since she actually convinced him to take the role of Captain America in the MCU. Considering how he said goodbye to the role in last year's amazing Avengers: Endgame, the fact that he almost didn't take it is shocking in and of itself.

Speaking with Esquire, Lisa Evans revealed that her son was hesitant to get the role because he was afraid of losing his anonymity. While he was a celebrity, at this point in his career he was not an A-lister and wouldn't be bothered by fans on the street. Taking the role of Captain America was going to change that since the MCU had started finding its footing by this point, though it wouldn't be a juggernaut until the release of The Avengers.

"His biggest fear was losing his anonymity. He said, ‘I have a career now where I can do work I really like. I can walk my dog. Nobody bothers me. Nobody wants to talk to me. I can go wherever I want. And the idea of losing that is terrifying to me.'"

In the end, we all know that Evans took the role, debuted in Captain America: The First Avenger and history was made. Everyone enjoyed Evans' version of the character, giving us an earnest yet human take on Marvel's famous super-soldier. It would have been easy to make him a dull, uninteresting nice guy but they didn't go that route as Steve remained an intriguing character until the end.

Chris Evans' three Captain America movies are available now on digital stores, along with all of his Avengers films.
