Chris Evans' role as Captain America reached its resolution together with the Infinity Saga upon the release of Avengers: Endgame earlier this year. For now, Cap's future is uncertain since he took the chance to go back in time to be with Peggy Carter. However, fans are still wondering if Evans would ever return to his Marvel role. And now, the Knives Out actor provided the fans with an answer.
In the latest episode of Variety's Actors on Actors series, Evans spoke with co-star Scarlett Johansson where they talked about various Marvel movies and projects of their own. The Black Widow actress brought out the topic and asked Evans, "Would you come back?"
"To Marvel?" said Evans. "You never say never," he adds." He admits that he loves the character but he doesn't really know if he'll come back. He points out that it's "not a hard no, but it's not an eager yes either." Evans explains that he has "other things" he's working on at the moment. He thinks that Cap had a "tricky act to stick the landing," but they did a "really nice job" for letting him complete his journey.
If they ever revisit his story, Evans wouldn't want it to be a "cash grab" or to just get the audience excited. He claims that lots of things "would have to come together" in order to bring a new and better story for the hero.
Since Captain America made a firm decision to go back in time and live his life, it would be a bit of a challenge to make a story going from there. Especially since it seems like Marvel made sure that his character actually reached a concrete resolution in the movie. Even Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely think that Captain America shouldn't be brought back.
