Chris Evans Actually Turned Down Marvel’s Offer To Become Captain America Twice

It might be hard to imagine another actor as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain America, but did you know that Chris Evans turned down the offer to become Steve Rogers twice a certain number of years ago?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is on its way, The Hollywood Reporter has decided to release a piece on Evans' career and personal life. In the article, the entertainment news outlet revealed Evan's first reaction to the offer to become Captain America, saying that the actor turned down the role because he thought it was just too good to be true.

"Getting the [Captain America] offer felt to me like the epitome of temptation. The ultimate job offer, on the biggest scale. I'm supposed to say no to this thing. It felt like the right thing to do," Evans explained in the interview.

According to THR, Evans decided to pass on Marvel's first offer to lock the actor in for a nine-film deal. He also decided to turn up the deal when Marvel came to him a second time, this time for a six-film agreement.

"You see the pictures, and you see the costumes, and it's cool. But I'd now woken up the day after saying no and felt good, twice," Evans said.

Thankfully, the casting team at Marvel was pretty tenacious. They wouldn't let their first pick for Captain America walk out on them too easily. So the company actively pursued Evans a bit longer, giving the actor enough time to consul friends and mentors about the decision he was about to make.

Eventually, Evans decided to take the role. However, while Evans has now become the face of Captain America that everyone loves, the weight of the role forced the actor to go to therapy. Now, the actor is a major supporter of therapy and mental health, knowing that it helped him deal with the anxiety that comes with the part that he's playing.

Evans is set to reprise his role as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame which premieres on April 26, 2019.
