MMA fighter and TV star Choo Sung Hoon's father, Choo Gye Yi, has died. He was 73.
Choo Sung Hoon's agency, Bonboo Entertainment, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement.

Choo Sung Hoon's Father Dead at 73
As cited by JoongAng Korea, the agency revealed that the patriarch — who appeared on KBS 2TV's The Return of Superman, died on Tuesday. The tragic event led the MMA fighter, who is also known as Yoshihiro Akiyama, to return to Japan immediately.
He and his family will reportedly hold a private funeral for his late father.
His agency also sent him a message of condolences to share their comfort with Choo Sung Hoon and his family. Choo Gye Yi's cause of death is not yet revealed to the public.

Following the agency's confirmation, Choo Sung Hoon shared a photoset on his Instagram featuring his late father. He called him his superhero, who taught him a lot of things.
"In the future, as my father taught me, if the time comes when you have to make an important choice in life, be sure to choose the hard way! That's the way to success! I will engrave those words in my heart and live hard," part of his statement reads.
Choo Sung Hoon also expressed his desire to play golf with his father the next time they meet.

The MMA fighter and judo player rose to fame even more when he appeared on the KBS show The Return of Superman with her daughter, Choo Sarang.
In 2022, he spoke about how he would support his daughter if she wanted to become a mixed martial artist like him. Choo Sung Hoon added that, while she knows about his job, Choo Sarang reportedly does not like seeing him get hit.
Choo Sung Hoon shares his daughter with his wife, Japanese fashion model Shiho Yano. They got married in March 2009, years after they started dating in January 2007.
