After nearly a decade of acting on Chicago P.D., Jesse Lee Soffer has returned to the set of the show, but this time as a director.

Soffer recently made his directorial debut with an episode titled Deadlocked, which focused heavily on Voight, one of the main characters in the series.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Soffer discussed the challenges of directing and shared that there was a significant moment that was cut from the final episode.

Challenges of Directing Chicago P.D.

According to Soffer, directing was not as simple as he thought it would be. He revealed that it wasn't an action scene that was the most challenging to direct, but rather the subtleties and nuances of the script.

He explained that there was a scene where Voight takes the bracelet from the victim to show her husband, and he had to ensure that the moment was part of the story while remaining organic and true to Voight's perspective. Although the scene was cut, Soffer found it to be a valuable experience.

Despite the challenges, Soffer felt that directing an episode of Chicago P.D. was a dream come true. He shared that returning to the set as a director was a seamless transition and that he felt as though he never really left.

Although he doesn't have immediate plans to direct any more episodes, he's open to doing so in the future.
