One of Channing Tatum's major roles earlier in his career is Duke in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, based on the beloved toy line. Throughout the years, the actor has been constantly expressing his disdain for the film which is also not a surprise to everyone since the character was killed off in the sequel.
In a recent lie detector test video that he did for Vanity Fair, Tatum was asked about his experience of starring in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra where he revealed that he declined the role several times before he was forced to star in the film due to contractual obligation with Paramount Pictures.
"The first one I passed on seven times, but they had an option on me and I had to do the movie. So the second one, I obviously just didn’t want to do that one either," he said.
The actor also confirmed that he asked to be killed off in the sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation which explains Duke's shocking death at the beginning of the film. When asked if he regretted the decision, he simply responded, "No."
As we've pointed out, it's really not surprising to hear that Tatum expressed his disdain for playing Duke in the G.I. Joe since he has been sharing that sentiments all over the years and this is yet again another confirmation that he wasn't enthusiastic about working on the film.
After Retaliation, the franchise did not continue to make more films until 2021 when they released Snake Eyes, which was supposed to kickstart another iteration of the G.I. Joe cinematic universe. Unfortunately, the film flopped at the box office and was panned by the critics which led to the franchise's cancellation yet again.

Tatum is set to star in the upcoming film Magic Mike's Last Dance is set to release in theaters on February 10.
