Fans may still need to wait a while for the next season, but Chainsaw Man fans in Japan are being treated now to the stage production. Finally, the Chainsaw Man stage play has started its run, and the first set of on-stage photos have been shared online.

These photos come courtesy of selected Japanese publications that were able to attend media previews of the play.

Thanks to this, fans outside Japan can get a look at this production, especially as it’s likely going to be Japan-only.

Chainsaw Man Stage Play Gets First On-Stage Look

Even before the anime’s release in Fall 22, Chainsaw Man was already one of the most popular contemporary manga titles. When the anime by MAPPA aired, the series’ popularity got an even bigger boost.

Despite how big the anime was, MAPPA has yet to renew it for a second season. Despite this, chances are high that the show will get a new season based on the numerous collabs and other projects for it.

Among these projects is the Chainsaw Man stage play. Previously, teaser visuals and videos were shared that showed off the cast. Now, new on-stage images have been shared online.

These new images show scenes that manga and anime fans should be familiar with. These include Denji’s fight with Katana Man, Kishibe’s Training Arc, and more.

Perhaps the highlight here for many anime fans is Makima. After all, she’s played by the iconic voice actress Aya Hirano of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Fairy Tail fame.

Chainsaw Man Stage Play Begins Initial Run in Tokyo

It has been nine months since the play was announced. Finally, the play has begun its initial run in Tokyo.

The show’s first Tokyo run is scheduled from September 16 to October 1, 2023, at the Tennozu Galaxy Theater.

This is quite a long run compared to other anime stage productions which only run for a few days to a bit over a week. Such was the case with the Lycoris Recoil and Bocchi the Rock! stage plays.

Following this initial run, the play will then be mounted at the Kyoto Theater, albeit for only four days from October 6 to 9, 2023.

Given that practically all anime stage productions don’t get international schedules, this Chainsaw Man play is all but confirmed to be Japan-only.
