Marvel's newest series, Echo, brings to life the story behind Maya Lopez's life as the beloved superhero. In this mini-series, we also get to see new faces and names in the industry. But if you're wondering who plays Chafa in Echo, you'll be shocked. She's actually someone you'll easily recognize.
In the TV series, Echo, the role of Maya's ancestor, Chafa, is played by none other than Julia Jones. Here's what you need to know about the actress.
Who is Julia Jones?
Julia Jones is an actress who has been in a number of films. You'll likely recognize her for playing Leah Clearwater in The Twilight Saga.
Jones was born in 1981 in Boston, Massachusetts. While her mother is of English descent, her father is "part Choctaw, Chickasaw, and African-American."
This made her the perfect actress to play the role of Chafa in Echo, which also pays tribute to the Choctaw community.

Who is Chafa in Echo?
Chafa is an ancestor of Maya who is from the Choctaw tribe.
The five episodes of Echo are all named after Maya's ancestral lineage. The episode starts with Chafa, which shows Jones as the leader of their tribe. Chafa is said to be the first Choctaw's name, who saved her family from their cave.
Interestingly, Marvel Studios highlighted the Native American tribe originally based in the Southeastern Woodlands. This area is now Alabama and Mississippi.
On the official website of Choctaw Nation, they explain how Marvel Studios built a good friendship "Ittikana Achukma" with their community.
They shared that Marvel Studios closely worked with experts in Choctaw history, culture, and language to properly portray the Choctaw people.
The origin story of the Chahta has a significant part in the roots of Maya Lopez. As perceived in their history, their ancestors came from the Mother Mound, Nanih Waiya, which is now Mississippi. The clay people depicted in the first episode of Echo are based on this story.
Where You've Seen Julia Jones Before
So where have you seen Julia Jones before? Before being Chafa in Echo, Jones has already been in several films and TV shows. Her most notable character is Leah Clearwater, who appeared throughout the Twilight movies.
She also modeled for various brands, such as Levi Strauss & Co., Esprit Holdings, L'Oreal, and Gap Inc.
As for her movies and TV shows, she starred in ER, Westworld, The Mandalorian, and Dexter: New Blood. Having started in the industry in 2003, it's no surprise that she's made a name for herself.
