Chadwick Boseman Hinted He Had Cancer in 2017 Interview

Probably one of the most shocking things about Chadwick Boseman's death was the fact that he had been struggling with colon cancer since 2016. While it has come as a shock to all of his fans, he had actually hinted at it in an interview back in 2017.

This interview of Boseman with The Huffington Post is once again making the rounds online because it reads completely differently when you put into account that Boseman was working while undergoing colon cancer treatment.

Here's the exchange:

HP: YOU CAME OFF OF ONE BLACK PANTHER PROJECT, DID "MARSHALL" AND THEN MADE ANOTHER BLACK PANTHER MOVIE. DID YOU BULK UP, SLIM DOWN AND THEN BULK UP AGAIN?

BOSEMAN:[Nods his head, looking exhausted] Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

HP: YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH THE WRINGER.

BOSEMAN:Oh, you don't even know [laughs]. You have no idea. One day I'll live to tell the story.

It's still unclear on why Boseman's sickness was kept as a secret, but it's possible that Marvel and Boseman were hopeful that he would survive, seeing that Boseman was still able to shoot a total of five movies since he was diagnosed; and that includes two Avengers films and the solo Black Panther movie. Even Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke had revealed she had brain surgery years after the fact.

For now, tributes are going out online for Boseman, as he had become an icon to many fans young and old. We don't know what Marvel plans to do with Black Panther moving forward, but I think it's best we just give everyone some time to sit with the loss.
