What Is Netflix's Celebrity All About?
Celebrity is a Korean drama tv series written by Kim Yi-young and directed by Kim Cheol-kyu. You can watch it on Netflix.
Celebrity follows Seo Ah-ri, a social media user who manages to achieve celebrity statues as an influencer.
The desire for fame -- and the money that comes with it -- is a major driving force behind her actions.
But there's a creepy element, promising that Celebrity will be more than just a spicy social media drama.
This is because, in the inciting incident, Seo Ah-ri's is addressing her followers from the grave.
In her last, pre-recorded video, she tells her fans that a follower has murdered her.
Her fellow influencers, some of whom are jealous of her popularity, watch the events unfold, doubting that she's really dead.
Could Ah-ri have faked her death? And if not, how did she film her video so calmly, knowing it'd be her last?
Did a follower really attack her, or could another celebrity know more than they say?
Who Is Portraying Seo Ah-ri?
The actress who portrays Seo Ah-ri is Park Gyu-young. The 29-year-old Korean actress has appeared in a long list of tv shows.
Park is also known for the role of Nam Ju-ri, a nurse in the OK Psychiatric Hospital from It's Ok Not to Be Ok (2020).
She has also appeared in the apocalyptic thriller Sweet Home (2020) as Yoon Ji-soo.
In the 2021 series Dali & Cocky Prince, she portrayed one of the main characters. Kim Dali, a visiting researcher at Saint Müller Museum.
What About the Rest of Celebrity's Cast?
Celebrity features an ensemble cast which includes Seo Ah-ri's fellow celebrities as well as other characters associated with her.
In the main cast, Kang Min-hyuk will play the role of Han Jun-kyung, a third generation conglomerate who is associated with Ah-ri.
Kang is also a singer, songwriter, and musician, apart from an actor. He's the drummer of the South Korean band CNBLUE.
Jin Tae-jeon, Ah-ri's old friend, who is a CEO in a law firm, will be portrayed by actor and singer Lee Dong-gun/ He has also appeared in the Kiss Sixth Sense 2022 Disney+ tv series, in the role of Hong Sung-joon.
In the role of Tae-jeon's wife, Yoon Shi-hyeon, is Lee Chung-ah. The actress has also starred in the 2004 film Temptation of Wolves. More recently, she has appeared in the K-drama One Dollar Lawyer (2022).
Oh Min-hye, Ah-ri's fellow influencer, is portrayed Jun Hyo-seong. She is most often referred to as Hyoseong.
She's a singer and actor who has been part of several music groups. Since 2014, she's a solo artist.
She has appeared in the Memorist (2020) tv series as Kang Ji-eun, among other roles.
The series will also feature special appearances by Lee Jun-ho, part of the boy band 2PM, Hong Ji-yoon (Ryu Se-hyeon from My First Love), Lee Sang-yoon (Kang Woo-jae from My Daughter Seo-young) among several others.
