CD Projekt Red Considered VR for Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is coming out in a couple of months and it's also a big departure from CD Projekt Red's Witcher games, not just because of the setting but also due to the first-person camera. While fans were initially nervous about the first-person camera, even asking CD Projekt Red for a third-person option, the developers stuck to their guns and we'll be waiting for the game to come out before we judge for ourselves.

Interestingly enough, during an interview with OnMSFT, it was revealed that there were initially plans to add VR support to the game. Considering how it's in first-person, this actually wouldn't have been the worst idea ever since titles like Resident Evil 7 made VR work really well. However, the developers feel that parts of the game wouldn't work in VR and that interest in the technology is still pretty niche.

We tried. We were thinking about VR, but we're not doing anything with VR. We got the VR dev kits, but… Some things would work in VR, but, I think, it's not really viable yet. You're not making a lot of money in VR yet. It's very experimental and niche. I would like to. I like VR, but we're not doing anything with it yet.

Honestly, that's a pretty interesting idea and we would like to see what a VR version of Cyberpunk 2077 would be like. Some games have been able to make the idea work, with L.A. Noir fitting the game genre perfectly. We probably won't expect a port to VR anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming out this September.
