Captain Tsubasa is easily one of the most beloved sports anime and manga, especially in Japan. Now, fans of this classic have something to look forward to as the 2018 Captain Tsubasa anime will continue with Season 2 this Fall 23 season.

It has been four years since the remake series ended, but earlier this year, it was announced that the Captain Tsubasa 2018 series is getting a second season later this year.

Now, it’s confirmed that the show will return this October, though it will be animated by a new studio.

When it comes to sports anime, most people are likely familiar with newer hits like Blue Lock. When it comes to classics, Slam Dunk is usually at the top of mind for anime fans.

While it may not seem as beloved (especially for international fans), Captain Tsubasa is easily one of the most iconic sports anime and manga of all time.

The original Captain Tsubasa manga, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump back in the 80s, was considered to be one of the key reasons for the growing popularity of association football (aka soccer) in Japan.

Given how popular the manga is, Captain Tsubasa has gotten numerous anime adaptations over the years.

The latest one is by David Production, the studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and the Urusei Yatsura remake.

For the upcoming season though, David Production did not return. Instead, animation duties have been taken over by Studio Kai, the anime studio behind shows such as Uma Musume Pretty Derby Season 2 and Shine Post.
