Captain Marvel star Brie Larson might have drawn flak for her vocal opinions on diversity and representation, however, it seems like actress' courage in facing difficult topics has earned her a spot in TIME Magazine's list of 100 most influential people.
Larson's Avengers: Endgame co-star Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) decided to write down a litany of why the Carol Danvers actress deserves her spot on TIME Magazine's famed list.
"Brie Larson is a warrior on- and offscreen," Thompson wrote in her post. "When she's not shattering records and stereotypes as Captain Marvel in Marvel Studios' first female-led superhero movie—which has made more than $1 billion at the global box office—she's fighting fiercely for gender equality, inclusivity and an end to sexual harassment in the workplace."
According to Thompson, Brie's activism comes naturally, explaining that it's just "an extension of who she is."
The Thor: Ragnarok star then alludes to Larson's comments about wanting more for women and people of color in the Hollywood industry – comments that sparked controversy from a vocal minority. Despite the issues surrounding Larson, Marvel seems to have a lot of faith in its Captain Marvel star. Right now Captain Marvel is expected to lead the Avengers to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Brie is primed to be one of Marvel's next big leaders at a time when women are breaking ceilings in all spaces. She is in a position to make real systemic change in Hollywood. I'm elated to see someone so pure of intention wield that power," Thompson continued in her post.
Captain Marvel experienced overwhelming commercial success at the box office, and many are eager to see how she leads the next retinue of Marvel heroes as the MCU moves on to Phase 4 of the franchise.
Avengers: Endgame is set to premiere on April 26, 2019.
