Captain Marvel Star Lashana Lynch Found Out Maria Rambeau's Fate Before WandaVision Aired

Besides exploring Wanda Maximoff's grief, WandaVision also reintroduced us to Monica Rambeau, who we first saw in Captain Marvel and is now an adult working as a S.W.O.R.D. captain. We also learned that prior to the events of the series, her mother Maria passed away off-screen during the five-year gap between Thanos' snap and when everyone returned following the Blip.

During an interview with ComicBook, Lashana Lynch, who plays Maria Rambeau, shared that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige actually contacted her regarding the character's fate over a year before WandaVision aired.

"Kevin Feige, who is the nicest guy, personally emailed me way before, I want to say, over a year, year-and-a-half-plus, before WandaVision aired and explained what was happening, how it was going to happen, when it was going to happen, specifically saying that he didn't want me to find out through anyone else," the actress said. "So there was a lot of care around that. It was sad to read, but also, because I think Maria had such a massive impact on Captain Marvel and everyone loved her and really related to her."

She added, "I felt good with the work that I did there and felt good that they were able to now continue her legacy in her daughter, which is amazing. And the introduction to her powers in WandaVision is also amazing, so I feel genuinely proud. I'm just happy I knew beforehand and didn't find out online somewhere."

It is actually nice to hear that Feige personally reached out to Lynch regarding her character's death off-screen. It's a wonderful act of courtesy that shows class and respect. You can say that Feige doesn't really have an obligation to reach out to the actress regarding the matter, but he still did it anyway and it proves that Marvel really cares about the talent that they work with.
