Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Specifically Asked For Samuel L. Jacskon To Appear In Film

Marvel fans might think having Captain Marvel bump into Nick Fury in her upcoming debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be a narrative choice, but it turns out that Brie Larson wanted to team-up again with Samuel L. Jackson.

For those who haven't been following Larson's career closely, the Marvel star appeared together with Jackson in Kong: Skull Island back in 2017. They also had roles together in Unicorn Store, Larson's directorial debut.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Larson says that it was an easy choice when she was asked by Marvel Studios whether she wanted to work on Captain Marvel with anyone else.

"Marvel was like, ‘Is there anybody that you'd wanna do [the movie] with?'" Larson told the publication. "And I was like, ‘Please. I need to be with my pal. Don't let me do it alone!'"

Of course, this Nick Fury won't be exactly like the eye-patch wearing S.H.I.E.L.D. director that we've come to know. Instead, we'll get to see a younger version of the agent who still has a whole lot of learning to do.

"His job right now, his place in the world is to find out where the next enemy's coming from. And like most sane human beings with a job like that, you figure the next enemy is some other country or somewhere else," Jackson said in an interview with ComicBook.com. "And all of a sudden he discovers something that we speculate about and now we know it's — well, he knows it's true — that there other beings in the universe, not just us. The next problem will be convincing everybody else that's true."

This is going to be an exciting challenge for Fury, one that will change him and help lead him towards the path that he's always taken in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel premieres on March 8, 2019.
