Captain Marvel: Brie Larson and Kevin Feige Didn’t Want to Use the Bathing Suit Outfit

When Captain Marvel was announced as part of the MCU, fans were rather happy to see this version of Carol Danvers in live-action rather than her Ms. Marvel identity. This doesn't mean that her previous identity was bad, far from it actually, as the character was a member of the Avengers and even had a few interesting stories to her name. It's just that her costume was a bit too fanservice-y.

Turns out Brie Larson and Kevin Feige agree as the two did not want to see this costume of the character in live-action. Feige made sure to tell Larson that this would not be the outfit she would be wearing in the movie, with Marvel Studios choosing the amazing redesign she got in 2012 from artist Jamie McKelvie.

Here's what Feige told Larson (via The Hollywood Reporter):

"If you look at the comics, the further you go back, the less clothes Carol Danvers seems to be wearing. Oftentimes it's a one-piece bathing suit basically, with outrageous comic proportions. … Brie pointed it out on the wall, and we went, 'Yeah … just so you know, that's not what we're doing.' She goes, 'OK. I didn't think so, but I'm glad you said that.'"

Funnily enough, her one-piece bathing suit wasn't her most revealing costume. Her very first outfit had her showing her stomach and wearing a very short mini-skirt so, at the time, the bathing suit was seen as an improvement. However you feel about either costume, it's clear that they wouldn't have worked in the MCU.

Then again, Scarlet Witch still has to show her cleavage so some work is still needed.

Captain Marvel comes out on March 8.
