Captain America Star Chris Evans Says Robert Downey Jr. Has Better MCU Paycheck

I think we can all agree that Chris Evans was perfectly cast as Captain America and the idea of another actor taking on the iconic superhero role other than him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is almost unimaginable. Currently, Chris is enjoying his time away from the Marvel spotlight after his successful tenure as Steve Rogers and by the looks of things, he's already done playing the patriotic super-soldier.

The same argument can be said for Robert Downey Jr. who did a phenomenal job as Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the billion-dollar franchise but according to Evans himself, if there's any other Marvel character he'd like to play (aside from the Human Torch, of course), it would be the genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist.

In a recent appearance on ACE Comic-Con along with his brother Scott, Evans jokingly revealed that RDJ's MCU paycheck alone is enough reason for him to consider taking on Iron Man in the Marvel universe. He explains: "You know, I'll say Downey, Iron Man. The paychecks would be nice [laughs]. But just the role is, he is the engine, he's the life."

All jokes aside, he did point out that becoming Iron Man himself is too much of a career suicide as RDJ pretty much owned the character. He added: "I don't think there's anything anyone on this planet could do that would somehow improve upon what Downey's done. I don't consider that to be a role that's gonna be like a James Bond or a Superman or Batman that somehow other people get a bite of the apple. He's Iron Man, the end."

While the thought of Evans and Downey switching characters in the MCU seems a bit odd and almost unsettling, I'd honestly be down to see a story set somewhere in the Marvel multiverse where their roles are reversed. I think that would be pretty cool. But then again, their respective MCU tenures are over and we should all move on to bigger and grander things in the franchise.

Meanwhile, the next episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will stream this Friday on Disney+.
