Captain America: Brave New World will mark the MCU debut of Israeli superheroine Sabra, a mutant character from the comics who made her debut in the early '80s. She is set to be played by Emmy-nominated actress Shira Haas.

While the details regarding the character's involvement in the story are currently under wraps, her inclusion has already been criticized by the Palestinians due to her history in the comics where the Arab characters she interacted with are portrayed as antisemitic and misogynistic.

The current situation surrounding the Israel-Hamas war has also raised more concerns about how the film will portray the character.

Some fans are also wondering whether Sabra will also be introduced as a mutant just like in the comics, especially since some of the recent MCU projects have laid some seeds on the concept of mutants leading to the eventual arrival of the X-Men later on.

Now, a new rumor has seemingly confirmed what fans have suspected about the character.

According to insider @MyTimeToShineH on X, Sabra will be established as a mutant in Captain America: Brave New World. While the word won't be explicitly said, she will mention that she "always had her powers" all along.

In a follow-up post, they added that the character will be introduced as a CIA agent and does not work for the Mossad or the IDF.

Last year, Marvel Studios responded to the concerns surrounding the inclusion of Sabra in the film by clarifying that they are "taking a new approach" and that the characters in the MCU are "always freshly imagined for the screen and today’s audience."

Assuming that the scoop is true, it sounds like Marvel is keeping their promise of doing a new take on Sabra and making it reflective of the current era, especially with what's been happening politically.

Turning Sabra into a CIA agent could be the most neutral way for them to bring her into the MCU without ruffing some feathers although it's still hard to say whether the general public will accept it when they see their approach to the character once the film releases.

In terms of the character's reported mutant origin, it is pretty much an indication that they are following the comics for that certain aspect and she'll be yet again another confirmed mutant within the MCU following Kamala Khan and Namor.

It is clear at this point that the MCU is slowly laying the groundwork for the formal introduction of the X-Men in the near future by establishing characters with mutations in their genes and it's interesting to see how it will all pay off once that time finally comes.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently slated for release in theaters on July 26, 2024.
