Captain America And Iron Man Reunited In Early Scripts For Avengers: Infinity War

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

Though fans were hoping for some sort of resolution after Captain America: Civil War, Steve Roger (Chris Evans) andTony Starks' (Robert Downey Jr) character arcs in Avengers: Infinity War brought them in two very different fronts in the Avengers' mission to stop Thanos (Josh Brolin).

However, according to Infinity War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Captain America and Iron Man were actually supposed to reunite in the film.

Markus and McFeely recently spoke with Yahoo! about the evolution of Infinity War's script, and during the interview the two revealed that they originally thought of having Steve and Tony reunite before the Avengers learned about Thanos.

"Our first sort of wonky draft [had] the idea that they had to get back in the same room together and deal with that. [But it] meant that you're slowing down your Thanos [Infinity] Stones [quest] to deal with other threats from other movies. And that became, as much as we wanted to do, and as many times as we wrote those scenes, it became clear that this movie needed to be propulsive and be about Thanos and what he represented to the Avengers."

Though it might have served as a proper resolution for the two after Civil War, the scriptwriters eventually decided against it, saving the reunion for Infinity War's sequel, Avengers 4. Fans who've already seen Infinity War know that the Avengers have been left with very little. A reunion in the wake of Thanos' massacre would definitely make a reunion between Captain America and Iron Man even more meaningful for Marvel's two-part Avengers movie. It'd definitely make for a more emotional reunion.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
