Captain America Actress Says She Was Acting in Self-Defense in Killing Her Mother

Marvel fans were pretty shocked when news came out that Captain America actress Mollie Fitzgerald had been arrested for the murder of her mother. News about her arrest came a few days before Christmas last year, and many were stunned to hear that Fitzgerald's mother had only been 68 years old.

Now, it looks like the Captain America star claims that the murder was done out of self-defense. TMZ just recently managed to obtain Fitzgerald's criminal affidavit and according to the criminal report, the actress "repeatedly told cops" that she had no choice but to kill her mother after the 68-year-old Patricia came after her with a knife. Fitzgerald also told the police that she had to disarm her mother right before she stabbed the woman four times in the back.

While this might seem like a legitimate reason for the act, the entertainment news outlet says that the autopsy report doesn't coincide with the affidavit. The autopsy report revealed that it was Fitzgerald's mother who had to defend herself from a knife attack.

"She had wounds on both of her hands described as 'defensive injuries.' One of the wounds nearly severed her thumb from her hand. She also had bruising on her face, lip, and neck," the site notes.

That's not all. The Johnson County Medical Examiner also failed to find injuries consistent with Patricia Fitzgerald delivering any strikes at all toward her daughter.

We can't be certain how this is all going to play out, however, if Fitzgerald does get convicted, then she could face up to 54 years in prison. For those who aren't familiar with the actress, Fitzgerald played "Stark Girl" in Captain America: The First Avenger, sharing a scene together with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper). She's also appeared in projects like The Lawful Truth and Trouble is My Business.

Marvel's next release, Black Widow, is set to premiere on May 1, 2020.
