Capcom Isn't Against Remaking The First Resident Evil Remake

With anticipation for the Resident Evil 2 remake at an all-time high, fans have been curious about what other titles from Capcom's library could be remade. Resident Evil 3 is an obvious candidate as it remains a fan favorite despite its dated graphics. However, Capcom did tell fans something they didn't expect; that they could also remake the original Resident Evil.

The thing is that the original Resident Evil already has a remake. It was originally made for the Gamecube and was recently ported to current-gen consoles alongside the underrated Resident Evil 0. Capcom knows this but feels that enough time has passed for yet another remake to come along.

Capcom told Game Informer that it wouldn't be "totally laughable" to remake a game that has already been remade for a previous generation. This might seem absurd at first but keep in mind that Nintendo has remade Starfox thrice and people love that company. At this point, it's a wait and see kind of project.

"Certainly enough time has passed that it wouldn't be laughable to remake the remake. I personally think that would be an interesting thing to do."

If Capcom does eventually remake the first game (again) we can only hope that they do so after a new Resident Evil game or a remake of Resident Evil 3, a title that has yet to be remade. We can only hope.

Resident Evil 2 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019.
