Can Avengers: Endgame Surpass Avatar At The Box Office?

Avengers: Endgame had an overwhelming opening weekend. Now, the film is barreling towards the very top spot at the box office, racing towards Avatar's haul with $2 billion in its pocket.

According to report by Deadline, the second film in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie has already brought in $2.188 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the fastest earning film in blockbuster history.

The title was previously held by James Cameron's science fiction spectacle, Avatar. The film took 47 days ( a little over a month) to reach the $2 billion benchmark. However, this took place during 2009, a time when ticket prices were much less than what they are today.

"It's really interesting because ‘Avatar' was the product of a completely different marketplace," Comscore. "The way films had legs back then doesn't happen like that in the summer."

Now, analysts are wondering how far Endgame might reach when it arrives at the 47-day mark. Some believe that the film won't enjoy Avatar's staying power – the film, after all, has some pretty strong contenders. There's Ryan Reynold's Detective Pikachu, Legendary Picture's Godzilla: King of Monsters, and Disney's upcoming live-action remakes, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

Still, Endgame could reach even higher. The film has been enjoying wave after wave of positive news. Not only does it mark the end of the Russo's two-part movie, but it also serves as the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, we're pretty sure that there are going to be quite a number of repeat screenings from the Marvel fanbase.
