Campfire Cooking stands out among the Winter 2023 isekai shows for its comfy vibe and scrumptious dishes. Now that we’re three episodes in, Campfire Cooking in Another World recently shared a cool behind-the-scenes look at the creation of its food scenes.

Recently, the show’s official Twitter account shared a look at how the animators over at MAPPA were able to create the show’s hunger-inducing cooking scenes.

To make them as accurate as possible, the studio filmed an actual chef preparing a dish, which they then used as a basis.

While most isekai shows are power fantasies where the protagonist becomes a powerful hero, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill is different, as it has a more lighthearted and funnier premise.

In the series, protagonist Tsuyoshi Mukoda finds himself transported into another world. But instead of a combat-focused power, Mukoda is granted the skill “Online Supermarket.”

As its name implies, the skill allows him to shop for ingredients from an online Japanese supermarket while in this new world. This soon gets him involved with a legendary beast who enters a contract with him.

Aside from its unique take on the isekai genre, Campfire Cooking is also significant for being the first isekai anime series by the renowned studio, MAPPA.

While MAPPA is best known for action-packed series such as Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan: The Final Season, this cooking isekai should be a nice change of pace for the studio’s staff and fans.

While this chill take on the isekai genre may not be for everyone, it’s undeniable that the show’s cooking scenes are mouthwatering, so much so that it’s not recommended to watch on an empty stomach.

If you’re curious about how MAPPA was able to animate the cooking scenes so well, here is a quick behind-the-scenes look at the episode’s cooking scene:

To properly animate the scene, MAPPA tapped Bucks Co., Ltd to cook a real-life version of the red board dish that Mukoda cooked in the first episode.

Upon its release, many fans were impressed by the actual cooking reference and how the anime was able to capture it accurately.

Many also wish that recipes for the food in the show will be released soon.

What is confirmed is that Campfire Cooking in Another World’s next episode will be streamed next week on Crunchyroll.
