Is Bungou Stray Dogs Based on a Manga or Light Novel?
While there's a wealth of literary references and book powers in Bungou Stray Dogs, the series isn't based on a light novel, as it is based on a manga.
The series, which began serialization in 2012, is being written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa.
To this day, Asagiri has mostly worked on Bungou Stray Dogs, but has also penned work on the Cthulu mythos (which doesn't surprise us, given that one of Bungou Stray Dogs' strongest characters is Lovecraft-based) and the manga, Guilty Children.
While the manga is original and the anime is based on it, there's a later light novel adaptation succeeding the manga, which is only fitting for a series so heavily influenced by books.
Is There More Bungou Stray Dogs Content?
The series also has several spin-off manga titles, with Bungou Stray Dogs Wan! and Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple being the most prominent.
In the spin-offs, we encounter several interesting scenarios including Ryuunosuke Akutagawa joining the Armed Detective Agency and Atsushi Nakajima joining Port Mafia.
There's also a spin-off exploring Osamu Dazai's relationship and backstory with Chuuya Nakahara.
The series reportedly began because of Asagiri's idea to take multiple famous authors and portray them as teenagers or young adults with superpowers.

Is the Bungou Stray Dogs Manga Finished or Ongoing?
The Bungou Stray Dogs manga is currently ongoing. From the day it began serialization up to present, it counts 23 volumes, which amounts to around two volumes per year since it started coming out in 2012.
There are no current discussions about the manga ending anytime soon, though it has gone on hiatus on several occasions, as is the case with most ongoing works.
Given this information, we don't expect Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 to be the last.
While there's no guarantee that all anime series will be picked up for an additional season just because there's manga material to go, we'd love to see all Bungou Stray Dogs content get animated until the end!
