Bumblebee Teaser Gives Us Look at G1 Optimus and Soundwave; New Trailer Tomorrow

Michael Bay had been given free reign over the Transformers franchise since 2007, but this year will have someone else taking over the films in the form of director Travis Knight. A new trailer for Bumblebee is set to come out tomorrow, and a short teaser gives us a look at G1-accurate looks for Optimus Prime and Soundwave.

Check it out:

Though I'm already amazed at seeing Optimus all blocky like in the cartoon, I was absolutely floored when a cartoon accurate Soundwave came onscreen. He even has the smaller robot that pops out of his chest just like in the original toy. If you freeze-frame it, Ravage is launched in the shape of a rectangle—a homage to his cassette tape transformation.

If the teaser is already this interesting, I wonder what to expect from the full trailer.

For now, it looks like these more popular transformers are going to be small cameo roles. The main focus of the story is Bumblebee after all, as he slugs it out with three Decepticons on Earth—namely Dropkick, Shatter, and Starscream lookalike Blitzwing.

I'm hopeful that Knight is able to bring us something different when it comes to the franchise. The Michael Bay films may get a lot of flak online, but they do make a lot of bank in the box office. Hopefully Bumblebee will manage to impress longtime fans as well as deliver in cinemas when it comes out.

Catch Bumblebee in theaters Dec. 21.
