Major John 'Bucky' Egan (played by Callum Turner) and Major Gale 'Buck' Cleven (Austin Butler) couldn't be happier to reunite, even though it was on camp Stalag Luft III.

Buck wasn't dead, which not only relieves they would get to work together to escape, but it does take a toll on Bucky's patience.

In Masters of the Air episode 7, Buck and Bucky come up with a plan on how to escape Stalag Luft III prison. By episode 8, however, reality starts sinking into Bucky's mind — escape isn't as easy as it looks.

In this case, Bucky struggled to accept that they would have to wait for eight months before their plan got to move forward alongside the withheld freedom of other prisoners.

The dispute began when Buck and Bucky had to work on their routine as the camp's prisoners.

While Buck tried to look on the bright side of the tree stumps they could use to warm themselves with, Bucky took this as his last straw.

Due to Bucky's refusal to trust their progress, he ends up in a physical argument with his friend Buck, fueling their frustration over not having any alternate plan to get home.

Although the real-life story of the Apple TV series saw to it that some of the prisoners escaped the Stalag Luft III prison, Buck Cleven and John Egan were not part of them.

They did not escape prison nor were they successful in being a part of "The Great Escape", however, they did leave the camp in approximately 15-18 months. They were free men, eventually.

Bucky Egan escaped by January 1945, with Buck Cleven being released from his second POW camp in April 1945.

Meanwhile, Masters of the Air episodes 1-8 are streaming on Apple TV+, with the finale episode coming out on March 15.
