BTS RM revealed what he truly felt after he did not get an exemption from doing his military service.

After Jin’s enlistment in December, the next members’ military service schedules surfaced online. Following BTS’s eldest member on the list are Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

The K-pop group’s supposed military exemption had been an issue in the years leading to Jin’s enlistment. As the South Korean government continued to debate over it, HYBE and the idols themselves announced the members’ desire to get enlisted instead.

In a recent interview, RM was asked what he thought about not being able to secure an exemption, and here’s what he said.

BTS RM Reveals True Feelings About Enlistment

RM visited the Hwaeomsa temple with music producer Kang San on Dec. 29. During their visit, which was shared on YTN’s YouTube channel, the rapper was asked about what he truly felt about the military exemption.

Chief monk Deo Mun asked the idol, "Were you sad because you didn't get the military exemption?"

"Of course not, I want to serve my duty as a citizen of the Republic of Korea. Only then can I talk about my rights. I also think of it as a time to become an adult,” RM responded.

After hearing his response, the monk told him words of wisdom and said that a year and a half in the military would never be a waste of time. Instead, that time would allow a person to self-reflect.

The chief monk touched viewers’ hearts by expressing how much he hopes RM could make great music even when he is already old. He ended his statement by wishing RM to become a true musician who brings music to its highest potential while making his fans happy.

BTS RM’s Visit Publicized Without His Approval

Following the release of the video, RM shared a post on his Instagram Story to express his frustration after details about his visit.

“I appreciated the time that you took to talk with me, but who knew you would be going to reporters about it,” he said before posting two more stories that read (in Korean): "Next time, I will visit a different temple in quiet privacy" and “#lowkeymustbelowkey.”
