Brie Larson Admits Fans Don't Recognize Her in Public

If you are an Oscar winner or a star from one of the biggest superhero franchises, the chances of you getting noticed by the people outside are so high, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, as she recently admitted that fans failed to recognize whenever she was out.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Larson recalled the time she went to see a friend perform in A Streetcar Named Desire in London, and how fans ignored her while her friend signed playbills for them. “I was just standing there, and he was like, 'How is this possible?'” she said. “If I'm checking out at the grocery store, I don't get recognized. I get 'Are you friends with my cousin?' I am the classic face of 'friend of your cousin.'”

Despite appearing invisible for that moment, the Room actress shared that she was glad for the anonymity. “I want to be in reality. I love reality. It's all I want. My biggest fear is not being in reality. It matters so much to me. I don't wear super-flashy clothes when I'm out in the world because I want to stay in reality. I'm very good at confrontation in my relationships because I want to be in reality. I want to be as close to what's true as possible.” Larson explained.

In 2016, Larson earned an Academy Award for her performance in Room, then made her MCU debut via Captain Marvel in 2019. The superhero film garnered a 79% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $1.13 billion worldwide at the box office. Larson reprised her role as Carol Danvers in Avengers: Endgame made a cameo appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and appeared in a mid-credits sequence during Ms. Marvel's Season 1 conclusion, teasing her next appearance in 2023's The Marvels.

Aside from Larson, the upcoming The Marvels will also feature the return of Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Larson said in February that the idea of an onscreen collaboration between Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel influenced her decision to come back as the hero.

“Ms. Marvel and what that meant was a huge part of why I wanted to play Captain Marvel. To see that character realized by such a brilliant human with so much potential is just a really exciting thing,” she reasoned.

The Marvels hits theatres on November 10.
