Tsubasa Yamaguchi's art-themed manga, Blue Period, is getting its very own live-action film adaptation in Japanese theaters this August 9, 2024, as the official X page posted the trailer below:

While this isn't the first time that Blue Period receives another adaptation to watch, this would be the first time the manga had a big-screen debut.

Kentaro Hagiwara (live-action Tokyo Ghoul, Our 30 Minute Sessions) helms the live-action, with Reiko Yoshida (Blue Period anime, A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden) pens the flick's script, while Yuuki "Yaffle" Kojima handles the music scoring.

Meanwhile, the four confirmed cast members for the live-action Blue Period are as follows:

  • Gordon Maeda as Yatora Yaguchi
  • Fumiya Takahashi as Ryuji Ayukawa
  • Rihito Itagaki as Yotasuke Takahashi
  • Hiyori Sakurada as Maru Mori

Blue Period follows a high school student who discovers his passion for the arts, with the series showing his journey of reaching his dreams.

The Blue Period manga won the 13th Manga Taisho Awards in 2020 and the Best General Manga Award in the 44th annual Kodansha Manga Awards in the same year.

Thanks to the heartwarming story of the series, it inspired a television anime adaptation in September 2021, where the anime made its Netflix debut in Japan. The streamer later added the anime to the roster outside Japan in October 2021.

Soon after, the series also got its stage play enacted at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo from March 25 to April 3, 2022.
