Blade Movie: First Purge Director Interested In Working With Wesley Snipes

Almost every comic book fan out there is really rooting for the possible return of Blade. Not surprisingly, the director of The First Purge is hoping to helm one of the rumored two projects and get the chance to work with Wesley Snipes.

Gerard McMurray recently admitted to ComicBook.com that he is interested in bringing Blade back to the big screen. The First Purge director stated that it was Snipes who made him want to take on the project.

"To be honest, I would love Blade. Blade was always a cool character. When I saw Wesley Snipes play him years back, I thought he was always a great character. I thought that Blade would be definitely a cool character to explore. I think he's interesting. It's a whole universe with Blade. So I think Blade is definitely somebody worth exploring, looking into."

Snipes has previously teased on two new films featuring his Marvel character. The New Jack City star revealed that he has been discussing the projects with Marvel Studios for the past two years. Unfortunately, the movies keep getting pushed back.

"All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we've been discussing for the past two years," Snipes said. "Everyone's enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess."

It is still unclear when we can expect to see a new Blade movie. Nevertheless, McMurray's enthusiasm and Snipes' hopeful teases could lead to new updates in the near future. Let's keep our fingers crossed on Marvel finally putting the focus on this project soon.

McMurray's latest project is The First Purge, which was released last July. Snipes will star alongside Eddie Murphy in the upcoming film Dolemite Is My Name, which is expected to premiere in 2019.
