Marvel Studios has been working on the MCU reboot of Blade with Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali playing the titular vampire hunter. Fans have been anticipating the film's release since it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2019.

However, the project has gone through a lot of obstacles throughout its development due to multiple director and writer changes. Its production start was also delayed multiple times.

The project is now back on track as they have hired a new writer to pen the screenplay while director Yann Demange has also confirmed that the film is going to be R-rated.

Now, we have a new exciting update on the project coming from the star of the film himself.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ali shared a brief promising update on the MCU reboot of Blade.

While he didn't give any details about their plans for the film, he did say that he is "encouraged" by the current direction of the project.

"We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon," Ali said.

"I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you."

This is an exciting tidbit from the actor since it sounds like he is now happy with where the project is going in the aftermath of all the behind-the-scenes troubles that it encountered for the last few years.

As long as Ali is satisfied with the current creative direction of the film, we can expect it to happen despite the past obstacles and they might be able to officially move forward to production by next year.

There were reports that the actor was planning to leave the project before, but fortunately, it didn't happen since fans would love to see him play the role in action and, as long as the project goes well, we might finally be able to see it in just a couple of years.

Blade is slated for release in theaters on November 7, 2025.
