Black Widow Posters May Reveal Hydra Sleeper Agents Among Natasha’s Family

Marvel Studios might be keeping Black Widow under tight wraps to prevent spoilers from making their way online, but it looks like the studio may have accidentally divulged some very revealing information about the upcoming comic book movie.

Marvel just recently posted a few character posters for Black Widow featuring Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz's Melina Vostokoff, and David Harbour's Alexei Shostakov, otherwise known to Marvel comic book readers as the Red Guardian. The posters seem innocent enough, sporting the same theme where characters are placed against a red and white background showing excessively redacted Russian documents.

These redactions are the type that one would probably see in an espionage file, something which shouldn't really surprise fans knowing that black widows are highly trained operatives of Russia.

However, an eagle-eyed Marvel fan noticed something unusual about the redactions in the posters.

Taking to Reddit, the Marvel fan revealed that the redactions actually hint at Hydra.

According to the fan's translation of the redacted documents, the posters for Yelena and for Melina reveal the phrases "From the darkness" at one end and at the other "towards the light." These are the same words used when Hydra agents get mobilized in Agents of SHIELD.

Could this mean that Yelena and Melina are actually sleeper agents of Hydra?

It seems like a possibility. There were rumors last year saying that Black Widow's two sisters would end up betraying her in the film. There's also the fact that Melina stands for the Iron Maiden, a well-known enemy of Natasha.

Let's wait and see whether the two are actually revealed to be agents of Hydra.

Black Widow premieres May 1, 2020.
