Black Widow was a solid success both critically and financially back when it was released in 2021 despite being available in both theaters and Disney+ Premium Access at the same time.

While the film is not widely regarded as one of the best films in the MCU, the responses from critics and the audience were still mostly enthusiastic and they welcomed the newly-introduced characters as well as formally said goodbye to Scarlett Johansson's last tenure as Natasha Romanoff.

However, the climactic third act earned divisive responses due to its over-reliance on CGI which also has become a constant criticism of some of the MCU films and TV shows recently.

Now, one of the stars of the film has chimed in and confirmed what we have suspected about the making of that sequence.

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via The Direct), Black Widow star David Harbour discussed his ongoing role in the MCU as the Red Guardian and revealed that the film's third act was actually reworked during filming.

"Yeah, I mean, we were, I think, gonna go and then I think they did want the opportunity to change some stuff. The interesting thing about Marvel that’s so great about them is they do rework stuff," he said.

"Even big productions. Like Black Widow, the entire third act was reworked as we were shooting, which is incredible. And so, they just want that freedom."

Regarding his upcoming return as the Red Guardians on Thunderbolts, Harbour teased that the script for the film is "really tight" and "really great" although he also noted that more rewrites could still happen.

He continued, "The script we have is really tight and really great. And our director, Jake [Schreier], thinks it’s great. But they just want the freedom. They don’t want to be stuck in the middle of a shoot and then having to go like, ’We can’t rewrite this."

This essentially confirms what fans have suspected about the film's third act and it could have explained the end results that we got on the screen.

In addition, we've also heard that there have been some issues behind-the-scenes on the MCU projects due to the massive pipeline that the VFX artists have to accomplish and they end up working on them until the last minute which could also be the reason behind the clunky CGI look.

It would be interesting to see how Marvel Studios will address this overall as they are hearing more criticisms about their recent projects.
