The recent release of Wakanda’s sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has put the world on pause as MCU fans celebrate and mourn the legacy of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. This second chapter has successfully encapsulated the grief and remorse of the Wakandans. But what has been consistently commendable about this franchise is its nature to be unapologetic about showcasing the fierceness and strength of its female warriors.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follows the aftermath of King T’Challa’s passing. It centers on Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and other leaders of the Kingdom of Wakanda as they battle to defend their nation from the dreadful undersea nation of Tlālōcān.

Returning as one of the fans' favorites, Okoye was seen donning the armor of the Midnight Angels after vacating her commander post. Despite not being originally part of the team in the comics, the accomplished warrior teams up with Aneka to help her country and people rise from the feeling of frustration and defeat.

The MCU is always one to shift the narrative from the pages of a comic book to the big screen, especially if it is to hint at a possible or upcoming installment. One can hope that the turn of events in Okoye’s story will establish the tone for her Disney+ spinoff that was announced in 2021.

Wakanda Forever ends with Okoye and Aneka embracing their identities as the Midnight Angels, a possibility that signals that the spinoff can pick up their ongoing adventures. The impressive expertise of the former commander is also a prospect for the series' storyline.

Prior to Wakanda Forever, Gurira has been seen in three MCU films: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and a minor part in Avengers: Endgame, all of which feature her as the leader of the Dora Milaje. Okoye's conclusion at the end of Wakanda Forever ensures that she will continue to slay the enemy after Phase 4.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently showing in cinemas.
