We're still a few years away from the X-Men reboot but Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has slowly been planting the seeds for their eventual arrival. The most recent addition to the mutant roster is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's main antagonist Namor and his origin story come with major revelations about the mutant race.

There have been several theories surrounding the origin of the mutants in the MCU, with the most popular one being that Wanda Maximoff's consequential actions in WandaVision paved the way for their X-genes to be activated. Some even suggest that the Infinity Gauntlet snap might have also been responsible for the creation of the mutants. Well, it turns out that none of those theories are plausible and Marvel just revealed that they have been around in Earth-616 longer than anyone expected.

Wakanda Forever pretty much confirms Namor's mutant status while making the stunning revelation that the Sub-Mariner, who was apparently born in the 16th century has always displayed his mutant abilities from the day his mother gave birth to him. This settles the long-standing debate surrounding the mutants' existence and changes everything we think we know about them.

It's incredibly shocking that the mutants have apparently just been hiding in plain sight all along and it begs the question: why haven't any of them surfaced yet knowing that other superpowered beings like the Avengers already exist? Are we dealing with another Eternals situation here?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now screening in cinemas worldwide.
